New President for Belize Association of Houston
(July, 2010) The Belize Association of Houston, Inc. recently met to elect a new president and to re-affirm its commitment to its goals and vision. After serving one year as secretary of the board, Bernadette James has demonstrated her passion and dedication to the Association. It was no surprise that the board unanimously elected her to be the new president.
Ms. James, who hails from Belize City, has lived in Houston for over 20 years and is a licensed REALTOR® with REALM Real Estate Professionals. In accepting her new post, Ms. James said, "I am honored to serve the Belizean community and believe that, by reaching out to the other Belizean associations and organizations across the United States, we can be of benefit to Belizeans everywhere. We have a lot of challenges ahead and plenty of work to do but with the support of the Belizean community in Houston, we'll succeed. " Ms. James is married to Kenneth James and the couple are parents to two energetic teenagers, Raeesah 16 and Amir 14.
In addition to electing a new president, the board reorganized a few positions to utilize the strengths and talents that each person brings to the Association. Elena Gabb remained as Vice-President; Nessie Ramirez-Francis who previously served as Treasurer was elected Secretary; Rhea Shol elected Treasurer; Paul Pollard continues as the Director of Media as does Charles Arzu, Director of Membership. Other Directors are Olguita Bardalez Waight, Community Development; and, Alvaro Palencia, Special Events.
As the Belize Association of Houston, Inc. starts this next chapter in its growth and development, we look forward to being a source of information, inspiration and communication for and about Belize.
