Hip Hip Hurray!
(September 11, 2010) Hip, Hip, Hurray! It was the 10th day of September. Actually, it was the 11th day of September that the Belize Association, Inc. hosted the second annual Family Fun Day in Cullen Park, Katy, TX. With coolers of food and beverages in tow, Belizeans from Houston, San Antonio and New Orleans came to celebrate in the of spirit of togetherness in honor of Belize’s 29th year of independence

The day was absolutely beautiful. Clear, sunny skies and plenty of humidity to remind of us of home-Belize! Nothing dampened the spirit of the crowd who talked, laughed and marched to the beat of the “It’s the 10th of September” song-the other national anthem. Bishop Wright, who was in town on business, said a prayer and also led the crowd in singing the official Belize National Anthem.
Board President Bernadette James introduced the board members then gave a short speech thanking the crowd for their support. In addition, she outlined the Association’s current mission and plans for the future. The mission for the Association is to unite and welcome all Belizeans, to become a resource of news and information for Belizeans in the Houston area and to continue to recognize our children each year by hosting the Academic Honors Event. Next year, September 21, 2011, is the 30th anniversary of Belize’s Independence and, in recognition, we will be hosting a gala event. The planning will start in the next few weeks. She encouraged those present to sign up for the many committees where they are needed. Many heeded the call to action.
With Board Member Charles Arzu providing dee jay services, the party went on until 9pm. Many people were still in the celebratory mood but all good things must come to an end. We promise that next year’s celebrations are going to be AWESOME!
Hip, Hip, Hurray!
